Chuck Daly, entrenador de la legendaria selección de Estados Unidos conocida por "Dream Team" que consiguió en Barcelona'92 el título olímpico de baloncesto, falleció hoy a la edad de 78 años.
El equipo Detrot Pistons, al que estuvo vinculado Daly antes de dirigir a la selección de Michael Jordan, ha anunciado que el técnico ha muerto hoy, dos meses después de hacerse público que padecía un cáncer de páncreas.
Daly fue universalmente reconocido como técnico por su habilidad para fomentar la armonía en el seno de equipos en los que coincidían personalidades muy fuertes como las de Michael Jordan y Charles Barkley en el "Dream Team", o las de Dennis Rodman y Joe Dumars en los Pistons.
Daly fue elegido en 1996 para formar parte de la lista de los diez mejores entrenadores en la historia de la NBA y es miembro del Salón de la Fama del baloncesto. Fue el primer técnico que ganó la NBA y la medalla de oro olímpica.
El momento cumbre de su carrera llegó en los Juegos Olímpicos de Barcelona'92, donde tuvo el privilegio de dirigir a jugadores ya legendarios como Jordan, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird y Charles Barkley y utilizó formaciones diferentes en cada partido.
A lo largo de sus 13 temporadas como entrenador en la NBA consiguió la victoria en 638 partidos y perdió 437, y en las eliminatorias por el título (play off) sus equipos ganaron 75 y perdieron 51.
